About Goblin
A corner goblin is something between Smeagol and Gollum: someone who enjoys being cozy, being safe, eating good food, and knowing good people, yet is also a bit more grimy and feral and easily startled than the typical hobbit.
The corner goblin is a 20-something, neurodivergent, demigender, queer person with zero social skills. This is not great for real life, but perfectly fine for website development!
I started this website when I was introduced to the concept of the small web, websites which were personalized rather than being giant corporations. I've done websites before, starting back in kindergarden because my dad is into computers, but never as an adult. I have very vague memories of the old web, as I didn't exactly get unlimited internet access as a kid, but what I do remember is nostalgic to me.
My hope for this website is to create a place filled with things that I like, both on the internet and off.
Favorite Movies
- Kiki's Delivery Service: this Studio Ghibli film is about a teenage witch who, according to tradition, must spend one year living on her own without the support of other witches. This film deals with depression, burnout, and the friends who stick by you regardless. 10/10.
- Captain Marvel: a movie in the MCU, Captain Marvel is about an amnesiac agent from an alien agency who discovers there may be more to her past than she has been told. If you have ever been deemed 'not good enough' by society, this movie is for you. 8/10.
Favorite Books
- Legends and Lattes by Travis Baldree: An orc retires from adventuring to run a coffee shop. This is an 'entryway drug' to the cozy fantasy genre. I like it because of the warm setting, loveable characters, and easy pace. 9/10.
- Mooncakes by Suzanne Walker: A witch and her childhood friend must work together to get a handle on her friend's werewolf powers and solve a local mystery. This YA graphic novel is perfect for fall, with excellent art and a gentle romantic plot. Contains excellent disabled, fat, queer, and Asian representation. 9/10.
- Lord of the Butterflies by Andrea Gibson: A short queer poetry collection. This will absolutely make you cry. Contains poems about queer identity, the criminal legal system, self-love, mental illness, gun violence, and other deeply personal (and potentially triggering) topics. 10/10.
- Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer: This book is about caring stewardship of the land, and how principles developed by indigenous people who lived here for thousands of years can be applied today to undo some of the damage caused by imperialism and capitalism. 10/10.
